Do I need to bring a partner?
No partner is necessary. Partner dancing classes are taught so that we rotate partners within the class to ensure that you learn as much as possible. Instructors are available to partner with student if the leader to follower ratio is not even.
What classes do you offer?
We concentrate on Latin Dance Classes, such as Salsa "On1" & "On2", Merengue, Bachata, Cha Cha, Ladies Salsa Styling, Spinning, Footwork/Shine, special workshops, BellyDance and Brazilian Capoeira. We also offer fitness classes such as SALSAFIT and AFROCOREFIT.
What should I wear to class?
Adults: Casual dress code. Wear something comfortable (i.e. sweat pants, windbreaker, jeans). As for footwear, dance shoes, jazz shoes, or dance sneakers though they are not required are extremely comfortable and a great investment for your dancing. Otherwise any flat sole shoes for men (no rubber soles) and comfortable shoes for the ladies. Open back shoes and flip-flops are not recommended, as they are difficult to dance in and also can be very dangerous. (PasoFino Store has dance shoes available for purchase)
How long are the classes?
PasoFino classes generally run 50 minutes long. Some exceptions will apply to workshops and special events.
How long will it take me to learn?
How fast you learn is solely up to the individual. Some people learn faster than others. It will depend on your determination and willingness to practice. There will always be class at your level so there is no need to feel rushed.
Do you offer private lessons?
Yes, private lessons are available. Private instruction is great in conjunction with group lessons to cover those areas that need some extra help or as a complete individualized program. Please contact us for scheduling an appointment. See Private Lessons for fees.
Do I need prior dance experience?
No prior dance experience is needed, everyone can learn the art of Latin dancing. We have classes for the inexperienced and experienced dancer. Even for two left footers!
Which Salsa should I learn to dance first? "On1" or "On2"?
It all depends on what your ear listen to more easily. If you hear the cowbells more pronounce then "On1" will be easier to learn. But if you have your ear tuned to listen to the congas (clave) then "On2" is your ticket. If your goal is to able to dance with just about anyone that you meet, then you can learn to dance salsa "On1". Although Salsa "On2" is like driving a manual transmission. If you can drive stick, then it's pretty easy to work with an automatic transmission (though not nearly as exciting). If you learn to drive an automatic, then learning a stick later on can be a bit tougher. However, if you want to pilot a Ferrari, then you're going to need to be able to work a stick.
Where can I practice what I've learned?
PasoFino will hold weekly socials for everyone to come out for social dancing and practice. See schedule for Socials/Events.
What forms of payment are excepted?
We accept cash, personal checks, and credit cards (Master Card and Visa).
Can I videotape the class?
We ask that you do not videotape the class, however we understand that you will want to practice what you've learned later, and tape is better than memory. As a compromise, we are willing to videotape you doing the step or turn pattern after class. We'll even make sure that you have it right, and hold the camera for you.
